Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly meme hosted by The Broke and the Bookish. This week's Top Ten list is "Top Ten Most Intimidating Books (might be intimated by size, content, that everyone else loves it but you are sure you won't etc)"
Nicole's Top Five:
1. Drowning Instinct by Ilsa J. Bick
2. Code Name Verity by Elizabeth Wein
2. The Book Thief by Marcus Zusak
This book has gotten some amazing reviews and I really want to read it but the student-teacher relationship still freaks me out a little bit a lot. Even though other readers had similar reservations and ended up loving this book, I am still nervous to read it.
Another book that has gotten amazing reviews. My hesitation to read this book is part hype, part Ashley not loving it. Even though historical fiction is not among her favorite genres, but is among mine, for some reason I am dragging my feet to pick it up.
3. The Crown of Embers (Fire and Thorns #2) by Rae Carson
I lot of people say The Crown of Embers is better than The Girl of Fire and Thorns. But I didn't love the first book as much as the second one and I am nervous I will feel the same about the sequel. I see a lot of potential in this series but I also see some trends that I do not like.
4. Two Boys Kissing by David Levithan
Even though I love contemporary, and thought-provoking books, I am still intimidated by Two Boys Kissing. I have not read anything on
5. The Eye of Minds by James Dashner
So I think this book sounds really cool BUT I also thought The Maze Runner series sounded really cool and I ended up disappointed. I am going to give James Dashner a chance to redeem himself, and I hope he does.
Ashley's Top Five:
1. Throne of Glass by Sarah J. Maas
Everyone, including Nicole LOVES this series so I really want to enjoy this one. I am intimidated by the hype of this book.
This is another popular book with a serious undertone that I hear only great things about. So again, I am intimidated by the hype of this book.
3. A Discovery of Witches by Deborah Harkness
This book intimidates me due to its size. A whopping 579 pages! I have heard mixed reviews so I am hesitant to start such a big book when I am unsure if I will enjoy it.
4.Grave Mercy by Robin LaFevers
Grave Mercy is a nice hefty 549 pages! I can handle long books, heck I flew through Harry Potter and The Clockwork Princess but for some reason the size of this book intimidates me.
5. Anna & The French Kiss by Stephanie Perkins
Hype. I am intimidated by all the fantastic reviews. Since contemporary is not my genre of choice I am hesitant to read this one when I have such high hopes!
What are your top ten?
I think this weeks post idea was great! It's given me so much insight! This is a great list and I'd be intimidated by some of these too1
ReplyDeleteThe Book Thief is totallyyyy on my list too x_x The hype for that. *shudders* I should have thought of Throne of Glass too, but I'm actually really excited to read that. And The Crown of Embers! I thought The Girl of Fire and Thorns was just okay, so I dunno...
ReplyDeleteI totally understand being scared of Anna, but honestly, that's such a light and lovable thing... you'll be fine ;) Nice list!
Cannot wait for you to read Throne of Glass Debby! And maybe I'll wait for you to read Crown of Embers and I'll see what you think ;)
Deletei started a discovery of witches and got about half way through, but it just wasn't working for me. i hope you try it & like it. i am a little scared of Code Name Verity, too, but i hope i get over it. ~daphne

Great lists! I also have the Book Thief and Code Name Verity. For the simple reason as it seems like everybody loves those books.

DeleteAwesome lists!! 4 of these intimidate me as well: Two Boys Kissing, Anna and the French Kiss, The Book Thief AND Throne of Glass! Especially Throne of Glass.. haha EVERYONE seems to LOOOOVE it!!!
ReplyDeleteyou will love it. end of story.
DeleteI know one other person who has read Two Boys and really enjoyed it. I'm looking forward to it. It's been awhile since I read a Levithan book. (I still haven't read Every Day. FOR SHAME I HAVE HAD IT FOR A LONG TIME. Ah.) I so so so relate to Code Name because I have had it since my birthday and haven't picked it up. But TODAY I scheduled the review for it so I have a window of time before it needs to happen. :) Good luck with all your reading, ladies!
