Top Ten Most Unique Books We've Read

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly meme hosted by The Broke and the Bookish. This week's Top Ten list is
"Top Ten Most Unique Books We've Read"

Nicole's Top Five

  1. On the Jellicoe Road by Melina Marchetta
I just finished this and for a contemporary, it is a pretty unusual read. And I loved it!
  2. The Lunar Chronicles by Marissa Meyer
Even though this series is a retelling of a few classic fairy tales, I think it is one of the most unique series I have ever read and I love everything about it.
  3. Daughter of Smoke and Bone series by Laini Taylor
This is another series that nothing else really compares to. It is so different and yet so amazing!
  4. How to Lead a Life of Crime by Kristin Miller
Still probably one of the most underrated book IMO. This book is a standout, not just because of the storyline but because of the execution as well.
  5. The Scorpio Races by Maggie Stiefvater
I am a big fan of Stiefvater's writing, and I think all of her stories are unique but this one especially and it is one of my favorites.

Ashley's Top Five

  1. Gated by Amy Christine Parker
  2. This is one of the only books I has to do with cults. I thought the premise was quite fascinating and it sparked and interest in researching some of the famous cults mentioned.
  3. Anna Dressed in Blood by Kendare Blake
  4. The Anna series is told from a male point of view which I thought was unique and just perfect for the spooky story!
  5. Angelfall by Susan Ee
  6. I have read quite a few angel books but never one like Angelfall. I did enjoy the Unearthly series but Angelfall was such a drastic change, full of intensity, action, and overall dark mood.
  7. The Forest of Hands and Teeth by Carrie Ryan
  8. This is my first zombie book ever. It was different take on zombies that had me completely taken by surprise and flying through the series.
  9. Some Quiet Place by Kelsey Sutton
  10. Emotions as people... very very cool concept that was well executed.

What are your top ten?

Daughter of Smoke and Bone…I just reread that one so that I could read the second one (since the last one comes out today). It's funny, the first time I read this one I liked it, but I didn't have strong feelings about it. When I reread it, I enjoyed it so much more. And yes, definitely unique. What a fantastical world Laini Taylor has created. I still need to read Jellicoe Road.

Anna Dressed in Blood…I still need to read that one, it's been on my kindle forever. Angelfall, love that book. Definitely a different angel book. Some Quiet Place…I don't think I've read too much about this one, but your description piques my interest.

Great lists!

Yes, for Jellicoe! My gosh. That book decimated me completely. The Forest of Hands and Teeth was my intro to zombies, and it would remain as a remarkable series for me.

Great list, ladies!
So happy to see How to Lead a Life of Crime on your list! I actually don't think I included it on mine but I think it's a really underrated book and totally flying under the radar even still!
The Forest of Hands and Teeth! Why didn't I put that one on my list?! Great top 5's girls! I need to read most of these still. DOH!

The forest of hands and teeth was also my first zombie series, I think that is one of the reasons I love it so much :D I can't wait to read Angelfall!

Cinder, Daughter of smoke and bone & Anna dressed in blood are great picks. I really like the whole teeth business and the fact that a fairy tale princess is a cyborg :D
Several of these almost made my list, too, including Cinder, Angelfall, Anna, and Jellicoe Road. So many awesome, unique books out there. Great lists, ladies!
Oh man, I love Angelfall and Cinder!! Great picks :D The Scorpio Races kept showing up in these posts but I haven't read it yet. I need to get on that asap!
