2015 Book Blogger Love-A-Thon | Day 1

One Can Only Quote

“It is a blessing as well as a burden to love so much

that you can hurt so badly when love is gone.”

― Deborah Harkness, A Discovery of Witches

So this quote is probably a little more somber than most but it is one that resonated with me (Nicole) the most. You see, my grandmother is one of the most important people in my life. She has been a significant influence on the woman I am today and is a big contributor to my love and happiness both past and present. But my grandmom is also 85-years-old and I know I only have so much time left with her. Just thinking about not having her in my life someday overwhelms me with sadness and I live in fear of when that day is a reality. But I wouldn't trade my love for her or the time I've had with her for anything, even if it will be that much harder to lose her. So yeah, this quote hit close to home.

But to lighten things up a bit, Ashley made this beautiful picture + quote combo about her love for her husband, Justin:

Book Valentines

Happy Valentine's Day Wolf (The Lunar Chronicles)

For Wolf I would buy him an awesome vest (credit), a picnic basket for a romantic date, a bottle of Once Upon a Vine red wine, and a pair of slippers.

Happy Valentine's Day Captain Thorne (The Lunar Chronicles)

For Captain Thorne, I would buy him Tangled for a fun night in plus I think he would love Flynn Rider, Firefly since he shares some traits with Captain Mal, a pair of rugged leather boots (Source), and finally Han Solo and Princess Leia towels (Source).

Introduction

Hello fellow book bloggers! Nicole (right) and Ashley (left) here, the bloggers behind The Quiet Concert. Our story started back in 2009 when we became sorority sisters but it was our love of the same things (aka BOOKS) that truly bonded us together. It wasn't until a few years later though that Ashley suggested we start a blog together, to which Nicole immediately responded "Let's do it!".  Neither of us knew what we were getting ourselves into but it has been one hell of an experience so far and we just celebrated our Two Year Blogoversary!  The best part? ALL OF YOU! Seriously, this community is what keeps us going so THANK YOU. When we aren't reading (or blogging or  visiting or tweeting or instagramming) we are pretending to be adults. Ashley just got married and bought a house. Nicole has hit none of those milestones but IS about to finish grad school so hopefully that counts for something. Other things we love? Traveling, hiking, loving on our pets...

And to answer some fun questions...

Name the 5 books you’re most excited for this 2015!
We don't read too many of the same books, which is actually pretty convenient for blogging, but some books we are both really looking forward to are: Winter by Marissa Meyer, The Raven King by Maggie Stiefvater, The Vanishing Throne by Elizabeth May, The Game of Love and Death by Martha Brockenbrough, and The Girl at Midnight by Melissa Grey!

What’s an underrated book or series that you think everyone should read?
Why, Nicole has a few - The Amber House Trilogy by Kelly Moore et al., How to Lead a Life of Crime by Kirsten Miller, If I Lie by Corrine Jackson, and Kindness for Weakness by Shawn Goodman. I gave 5 stars to each of these. They are AMAZING and more people need to read them!!

Which book boy or girl would be your book BFF?

If we had to pick one, it would be ZUZANA but we also love Blue, Will and Thorne! <3

A big thank you to our lovely host, Alexa @Alexa Loves Books, and the creator of this event, Katelyn from Kate's Tales of Books and Bands! <3

Awww I love the story behind you two starting your blog, that's so cool that you two were friends in college before and bonded over blogging. Then voila, a book blog! I'm so excited for Winter, it's 800 pages and I can't wait. I love How to Lead a Life of Crime, what a great rec. I'd love to be friends with all four of those characters. I think Will takes the crown though ;) Lovely getting to know you!

Nicole & Ashley, I so enjoyed this introductory post for the love a thon! Nicole, I see you're reading Seraphina--I started this recently too! Also, congrats on nearly finishing grad school--I'm a grad school alumni myself and love cheering others on who are in the party.

How could I forget to add Winter to my list?? That's probably the release I just can't wait for....

Great blog name and beautiful, easy to read blog. Besides all the bookish fun I use this time for blog design ideas and there are some that are very difficult to read.

Yay for Zuzana! I picked Karou for mine! I'd love to just hang out with them both and pretend to be cool for the day. Haha, Great poem too, I found it really hard to do!
I would absolutely be friends with Blue. She's so awesome! Great choice. I love the cover for How to Lead a Life of Crime - I really should check it out! Great job with the poem, too! <3

Love your poetry and items for your Valentines.
I love you ladies! Your introduction is cute, and I'm still so happy for all the new things happening in both your lives, personally and book-wise on this blog. Thanks for joining in on the Love-a-Thon! <3
I love those Princess Leia towels!
Your blog is so beautiful, here's a potential RAK you can do...Tell me how to get all those book cover images to line up next to each other instead of going down in a column. I know basic HTML, but when I get it all into place blogger flips it back.

Hope you're having fun and getting ideas for books and your blog as I am.
