I Love A Bad Boy

Welcome to Thoughts for Thursday! This feature is our outlet to talk with you about whatever we currently have on our minds. It might be bookish, it might not! Now for this week's thought:

I Love A Bad Boy

Yes, it's true. It seems that it's always the bad boys that I'm most attracted to in books. The ones that have that devil-may-care attitude and aren't always on their best behavior. Adrian Ivashkov from The Vampire Academy series might be my first bad boy crush. And Rhysand from A Court of Thorns and Roses might be my latest. I swooned over both of these boys more than I did the actual love interest. I just find them so damn sexy.
But before I keep going, let me say that there is a difference between a bad boy and an asshole. The latter, I do NOT love (or even like). Those damaged types that treat girls like crap and justify their behavior away later can go to hell.

Now why do I like the bad ones? Maybe it's that opposites really do attract and I'm drawn to the fact that they are everything I'm not (hah). Or maybe it's because I love a challenge or that they are a mystery that needs to be solved. Maybe society has ruined me and I think I (but really the main character) will be the one to change them. I have no idea. It's even possible that I don't love them at all but only think that I do because they make the books I read so much fun and I miss them when they are not there. The point is, I can't get enough.

I will still love and swoon over the sweet, nerdy or just boy-next-door guys (like Max from The Start of Me and You) but I'm likely going to choose the rebellious, fun, trouble-causing types. Give me Sturmhond over Mal any day. ;)

So tell me, what's your type? Do you like bad boys like I do?

I think that those bad boys have a certain complexity and that makes them interesting to me. Like with The Darkling; there is something about him. It's different when it comes to those abusive, manipulative bad boys, I seriously dislike that trend. But I like the ones that have a little edge of darkness to their personality.
Sigh. Who doesn't? ;)

I don't have a type when it comes to book boys, lmao. I'm an equal opportunity swooner. As long as they bring the swoons, I'm in.
Thought I guess if I *had* to choose, it'd be the guy who is popular and likes to give chase. ;)

Hmmm…it depends. I'm probably more like Danielle, in that I'm an equal opportunity swooner. So for example, I loved Aiden in the Covenant series but I loved Daemon in the Lux series. And I loved Dimitri for Rose but loved Adrian and Sydney together. But yes, bad boys are usually so fun. :)

I think when it comes to a love triangle, the bad boy type is always more appealing to me. But he has to have a deep and complex personality, not just the look and actions (aka dark and wears edgy clothing, rides a motorcycle, etc.). A one-dimensional bad boy without something compelling or heart-warming about his personality is just a thorn in my side.

If we're talking the Grisha trilogy though, why not THE DARKLING?? Possibly the baddest bad boy of all time, and the most compelling! Let's be honest -- Mal is a pretty darn boring and plain choice in comparison. I wonder if I might like him more if I reread the trilogy again, knowing that she ends up with him.
I big YES! I love bad boys too as you know, but also like you I'm not a fan of guys that are just straight up jerks and then try to explain it away later. Ugh.

I am not sure why I love bad boys either. I think the mystery or just maybe because they just sound so sexy and usually look it in my head OR maybe it is because they are so adventurous and I wish I was too. Never afraid to just do something because I want to. ;) I love the cute nerdy boys too, but like you just not as much.

I know The Darkling pulled me in. hehe Damon Salvatore always has my heart and oh yes to Rhysand!
