Exploring Outside My Book Comfort Zone

Welcome to Thoughts for Thursday! This feature is our outlet to talk with you about whatever we currently have on our minds. It might be bookish, it might not! Now for this week's thought:

Exploring Outside My Book Comfort Zone and Need Recommendations!

So I have semi-recently expanded my reading comfort zone and read my first New Adult book (Cora Carmack's Losing It) and I LOVED it.  It made me laugh and smile throughout the whole book.  I wanted more just like it so I quickly finished the Losing It series and read the Rusk University series in May.  I am thrilled to have ventured into New Adult books; I have enjoyed the ones I have read so far but I need more, especially for reading outside this summer!

So this is where I ask you, what are some of your favorite New Adult books??

I have been really enjoying trying books out of my comfort zone but I have been very very selective so far.  I do have bookshelves full of great books that am looking forward to reading but sometimes I feel like I need a book that is a polar opposite of what I have just read.  I need to cleanse my book palette so to speak.  I recently was drawn to a book I won a while back, The Cute Girl Network, which happened to be a graphic novel.  My first one ever!  The story was cute and fun and I loved the artwork; I finished the book in one sitting.  I went to the library and did some googling in search of more like it but I was quickly overwhelmed.  I had no idea what would be another good graphic novel or other book with illustrations that a newbie might possibly enjoy.

So this is where I ask you, do you have any graphic novel/illustrated book recommendations?

Also, are there any series or books you think I should avoid completely in either kind of category?  I look forward to recommendations and continuing to expand my comfort zone!

Ashley, I'm excited you liked Cora's series.
For fun, funny, light NA books, I highly recommend The Deal and The Mistake by Elle Kennedy. Those 2 are the only NA books that have worked for me this year.
I also highly recommend Kristen Callihan's The Hook Up and The Friend Zone (even though they have some ugly ass covers!), but know that they are a little bit more dramatic than what you might be looking for. But still, they are hilarious and the chemistry and banter between the couples are amazing. :)
Five Ways to Fall by K.A Tucker was also great. It was funny and I think you'd like the couple. Oh and basically any book in the Burying Water series by K.A Tucker is phenomenal. They aren't funny, but they are entertaining romantic suspense NA books!
Anyways, I hope you enjoy these books if you decide to try them! I'd love to hear when you try them out.

I used to avoid LGBTQ books because they're not my "thing". Some people don't read books about dragons or any kind of fantasy - we all have our quirks. But I recently stepped out of my comfort zone and was amazed and wowed by NONE OF THE ABOVE and SIMON VS THE HOMO SAPEINS AGENDA. Both books have opened my eyes to a whole new lovely world of books. <3

I just finished None of the Above and LOVED it. I felt like it was eye opening and so different from what I normally read and I was so glad I read it
My NA recs are WHEN JOSS MET MATT and LAST WILL AND TESTAMENT! They're both great (though not necessarily similar) with really great characters, thought-out plots, and moving moments. WHEN JOSS MET MATT was so funny and adorable and LAST WILL AND TESTAMENT had great snark and strong characters and both have really awesome guys that I swooned for ;D

I don't read a lot of New Adult ( I don't really like Contemporary books) but out of the ones I have read the Wait for You series by Jennifer L. Armentrout is my favorite. Those books are just so addicting and the pages just fly through your hands! The first one, Wait for You, is a love story but so much more. The main character grows so much throughout the book and its wonderful to read!
Another NA book I love is Maybe Someday by Colleen Hoover. This book is so emotional and such a wonderful love story!

One of my favorite New Adult books: Maybe Someday by Colleen Hoover (Have you read that one? I can't remember.) IF you haven't read it I highly recommend that you do. :)

One of my favorite Graphic Novels: El Deafo by Cece Bell I think you will love it!!!

I definitely recommend Volition by Lily Paradis. It's my first NA book and I loved it!!

I'm going to be repeating what other people have said, but I LOVED The Deal. So so cute. I liked The Mistake too, but The Deal was a 5 star read for me. When Joss Met Matt was super cute too. Sophie Jordan's The Ivy Chronicles is also light and fluffy NA. The third one, Wild, is my favorite. A.J. Pines has also written some really cute NA.

Okay, I don't read graphic novels, but for New Adult I'd recommend - Megan Erickson, Cora Carmack, Noelle August, Sweet by Tammara Webber (not heavy like Easy), and The Friend Zone by Kristen Callihan. :)

I've enjoyed some New Adult books, but I haven't really gotten into graphic novels much yet. I'd like to try graphic novels soon, but not sure what I'd like.

The New Adult books I've read have been by J. Lynn, KA Tucker and Sophie Jordan. Everything I've read by these authors, I have enjoyed. :) I haven't completed their series yet, but have read at least one or two books by each. :)

Yay for branching out! I love graphic novels. A few I'll recommend: the graphic novel adaptation of The Graveyard Book by Neil Gaimain - comes in two volumes; Lazarus by Greg Rucka (has a great female protagonist); Saga by Brian Vaughan (sci-fi). Also, Here by Richard McGuire gets a massive recommendation. It has very few words, but it meets your criteria for awesomeness and great artwork, and it's unlike anything I've ever read.
