Thoughts for Thursday (12) - 5 "Oldies-but-Goodies" I Vow to Read in 2014

Welcome to Thoughts for Thursday! This feature is our outlet to talk with you about whatever we currently have on our minds. It might be bookish, it might not! Now for this week's thought:

5 "Oldies-but-Goodies" I Vow to Read in 2014

So these books aren't "old" per say but anything released before the previous calendar year that has a strong following I like to call "oldies-but-goodies". And these are the 5 "oldies-but-goodies" that I've set my sights on for this year. I already own all of these, I just haven't gotten around to reading them yet. I have no good excuses. So without further ado...

5. Bad Girls Don't Die by Katie Alender

I love this cover and the synopsis gives me goosebumps.
I also snagged this through ARCycling so it gets bumped up the list.

4. A Discovery of Witches by Deborah Harkness

"A richly inventive novel about a centuries-old vampire, a spellbound witch,
and the mysterious manuscript that draws them together."
Need I say more? That sounds freaking awesome.

3. The Immortal Rules by Julie Kagawa

"To survive in a ruined world, she must embrace the darkness"
I've heard this ranks among the best Vampire Fiction.
That's enough of a reason for me.

2. Hate List by Jennifer Brown

I love Jennifer Brown.
There is no good reason for not reading this yet.

1. On the Jelicoe Road by Melina Marchetta

This will be my first Marchetta contemporary.
I have heard nothing but wonderful things about this book.

So what do you think of my list? Have you read any of these? Are there any books you think I missed? What "oldies-but-goodies" are you going to read in 2014?

I've had Jellicoe Road on my bookshelf from the library for awhile now and I really need to read it soon. Same with you, I have heard nothing but amazing things about this book. The Immortal Rules was great, I definitely recommend that one. And I did like The Discovery of Witches, but I didn't love it, it was a bit slow for me in parts. Let me know when you're reading Jellicoe Road and maybe we can read it at the same time!
My recent post Book Review: Taste of Darkness by Maria V. Snyder
I finally read Jellicoe Road this past year & it was THE BEST DECISION I EVER MADE. That book is amazing & yes, it totally lives up to all the hype it's been given. I have yet to read anything like it. Melina Marchetta is a fantastic writer, someone who I adore and truly admire. Jellicoe Road captures the essence of her craft. I hope you get to it sooner, rather than later.
My recent post The Story Guy by Mary Ann Rivers
Jellicoe Road is my favorite YA book in existence and Marchetta my favorite YA author!

Yes to The immortal rules! It's the best :D When I was getting tired of the sparkly vampires, this book got me hooked on these creatures again. Just wait until you meet Allie!
The Immortal Rules is definitely one that I need to get to myself. And Discovery of Witches. My best bud is crazy about that series, and keeps telling me to check it out. If you like spooky, sometimes genuinely scary stories, then you definitely have to read Bad Girls Don't Die. I loved it. I haven't read the other two books yet, but they are both on my list. And I have heard so many fantastic things about Jellicoe Road. I look forward to reading your review!
The Immortal Rules is FANTASTIC! And if you read it (and the sequel) early this year, and love it, the last book will be waiting for you right around the corner.

My own "oldies but goodies" list for this year includes the first books in the Harry Potter and A Song of Ice and Fire series. Hopefully I'll love them enough to want to read more, but I'm keeping my goal manageable for this year.

One time, I went to B&N and saw Bad Girls Don't Like, but I decided to drop the book because it didn't match the height of my paperback books LOL. I know, I'm so OCD. But I will def. buy it in my Nook. I've heard so many good things about Jellicoe Road, so yes, I will read that in the future. The Immortal Rules is a very great read, but The Eternity Cure is much better. :-) You should read it someday.
Ok I also neeeeed to read A DISCOVERY OF WITCHES AND JELLICOE ROAD. we should read the same time!

Another great post for thoughts for Thursday, I have a good handful of "old" books I really want to read. Bad Girls Don't Die is actually on that list :) I am happy to see A Discovery of Witches on your list. I hope you like it. Hate List is also a good read.

I've never read any of these. Immortal Rules has been on my wishlist for ages but I've never gotten around to buying it. Most of the other books in your list I've never even heard about so I will have to check them out
I really need to do this too! There are so many older books that I need to finally get around to reading! Hope you get to accomplish your goal!! :)

Ooh I love the cover of that first one and it does sound really creepy. I feel like there needs to be more creepy YA!
