Everything changes when she meets Finn, a gorgeous, enigmatic young lord who introduces her to the secret world of Albion’s nobility, a world that has everything Jessamin doesn’t—power, money, status…and magic. But Finn has secrets of his own, dangerous secrets that the vicious Lord Downpike will do anything to possess. Unless Jessamin, armed only with her wits and her determination, can stop him.

Review

I am not sure what I can say about Illusions of Fate that hasn’t already been said. I think it was a fun book with a lot to appeal to readers like a fast-moving plot, lot of suspense, charming characters and a world that was new and interesting. The relationships between characters were rich although there is a touch of insta-love here. And the ending had a surprising twist.

I liked Jessamin well enough even though she could be stubborn to the point of idiocy at times. I REALLY liked Finn in all his patient, kind, smoking-hot Lord-ness. And of course I loved their banter. I always love witty banter in books. But Eleanor was probably my favorite character with her unexpectedly mischievous nature and welcoming good-humor. And I have to mention Sir Bird, who had quite the presence even without any dialogue.

It’s a rare thing these days to read a Fantasy that is a standalone and it was nice to start and finish a story without interruption. But I think the fact that it was only one book contributed to that “light and fluffy” feel that readers have remarked on before me and that I too felt to some degree. We don’t get to spend a whole lot of time with these characters or this story and so there isn’t really a whole lot of depth to either. But I don’t think that is necessarily a bad thing. Light and fluffy is good too.

Illusions of Fate might not illicit any strong emotions in you but it will make you smile, likely swoon, and maybe even laugh. But most importantly, it will keep you turning pages. I do recommend this one!
